McMorris's War

Rep. Cathy McMorris

Dear Rep. McMorris,

Thank you for responding to my recent letter. It comforted me to hear that my Congressman so whole-heartedly supports Our Leader's Glorious War to Bring an Islamic Theocracy to Iraq. We're doing great things over there. It's worth the price we pay for the noble cause of turning our loved ones into fallen heroes.

I must admit, however, that I'm more than a bit disappointed with your response. You failed to address a single question I asked. Now, I know how easy it is to get carried away when you're talking about all the wonderful things happening in Iraq, so it's easy for me to understand how your response was sidetracked. That's why I'm giving you another opportunity to respond.

As you may recall from my letter, the Pentagon, after suffering tremendous shortfalls in recruitment, requested that Congress pass legislation raising the enlistment age to 45. Will you sponsor it? And then, after it has passed, will you enlist?

Please consider it. Think of the example you'd set for the rest of us. I can't think of a better way for a Congressman to honor the troops than to join them.

Heterosexually yours,

Gen. JC Christian, patriot

P.S. I don't believe that the Iraqi Government is requiring female American soldiers to wear burkas yet, but you might want to pack one just in case.

Dear Jc:

Thank you for contacting my office regarding the war in Iraq. I appreciate hearing from you.

One of my top priorities is to ensure our National and Homeland Security. The war in Iraq is one of our critical efforts to advance freedom and defeat terrorism across the world. Without a doubt, America is safer today because Saddam Hussein is behind bars.

If military action were not taken in Iraq, the potential threat to the United States would have increased greatly due to the precarious nature of Saddam Hussein's regime. This regime exhibited the ability to use chemical weapons as well as refusal to abandon programs that relate to these dangerous weapons.

With this threat present, and a mixed level of cooperation on Iraq's part, the Bush Administration launched Operation Iraqi Freedom on March 19, 2003, which succeeded in toppling the regime of the former Iraqi president on the following month, on April 9th.

Operation Iraqi Freedom was essential on a couple of fronts: 1) transforming Iraq into a democracy that could serve as a model for the rest of the region; and 2) would prevent Iraq from becoming a safe-haven for terrorists.

It is my belief that the best way to stop terror is to spread democracy and freedom, and that is why the elections in Iraq were such a critical turning point to stability in the volatile Middle East and a useful tool in the war against terrorism. The national security interests of the United States as well as the rest of the world have been enhanced by the destruction of this brutal dictator.

I am pleased to announce that more than 8 million Iraqi's exercised their right to choose their new government and last week, Iraq's new Transitional National Assembly was seated. The assembly will begin to write Iraq's new national constitution that is to be ratified in October, followed by national elections in December.

In addition to the formation of the National Assembly, Iraq's security forces continue to grow stronger, and continue to persevere as they combat terrorist actions and threats. Also, hundreds of reconstruction projects are under way providing essential services like electricity and water throughout the country.

Our coalition in Iraq remains strong and the brave men and women serving in our armed forces have my unwavering support. I will continue to work diligently to provide them with all of the resources and equipment they need to win the war on terror and keep America safe from harm.

Best Wishes,

Cathy McMorris
