Best Opening Lines

Earlier this week, published a list of their favorite opening lines in songs. Topping their list was the first lines of Rick James' Superfreak:

She's a very kinky girl
The kind you don't take home to mother

Although I'm not a big fan of the song itself, I prefer the opening to Warren Zevon's Werewolves of London:

I saw a werewolf with a Chinese menu in his hand
Walking through the streets of Soho in the rain
He was looking for a place called Lee Ho Fook's
Going to get himself a big dish of beef chow mein

Or maybe Bob Dylans Hurricane:

Pistol shots ring out in the barroom night
Enter Patty Valentine from the upper hall.
She sees the bartender in a pool of blood,
Cries out, "My God, they killed them all!

And how can you not love the beginning of the Patti Smith's Gloria:

Jesus died for somebody's sins but not mine

This week's playlist for the two or three of you who aren't on vacation is Best Opening Lines. We want to hear your contributions. You can add or search for songs here.

But if you add Kiss' Take Me, Little Petey LaBarbara is going to punch you.

It's going to be slow weekend, so don't worry about limiting your submissions. Keep adding songs as you think of them. Let's fill this one up.
