Recently, the French have been screaming about the Senate Republican Caucus' theft of documents from Democrat computers. An editorial in the Richard Mellon Scaife's Pittsburgh Tribune-Review cuts through the Democrat propaganda and identifies the real crime:
Democrats, aided by an incredibly gutless Republican leadership, have done a wonderful job of escaping scrutiny in a scandal that should bring the party to its knees and threaten some of its most prominent members with prison.
Lack of a fire wall in a computer system set up by Senate Democrats enabled Republican staffers -- with a click of a mouse on a shared-server network -- to gain access to more than 4,000 internal Democrat memos. Some suggest the usual political collusion with left-wing groups, such as People for the American Way, to derail President Bush's judicial nominees.
But some indicate far worse, such as an April 17, 2002, memo from a staffer to Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass. It suggests the NAACP Legal Defense Fund conspired with Democrats to influence the outcome of the landmark University of Michigan affirmative action case before the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
How? By delaying the nomination of a judge considered hostile to the concept of using discrimination to "end" discrimination.
You see, the real crime wasn't the theft of documents; it was the collusion between Democrat Senators and public interest groups. This kind of thing has to end. There is absolutely no reason to consult with public interest groups in debates that may influence decisions that will affect the public interest.
Unlike industry advocacy organizations, public interest groups don't directly contribute to our economic well being--when was the last time you heard a public interest group promoting outsourcing to India as a way to bring down consumer prices. Instead, they work against corporate, and by extention, American, interests by demanding things like equal employment opportunities and pollution regulation.
I hope the Senate has the guts to call for a special prosecutor to look into this collusion between Democrat senators and their constituents. I also applaud the Senate Republican Caucus for their work in stealing the documents. I urge them to do more of it. Majority Leader Frist should hire someone like G. Gordon Liddy to put together a special team of burglars, hackers, and wiretappers to dig up even more ammunition to use against the Democrats.
