Wasteful Government
National Public Radio -- a source I usually distrust because I suspect that they are somehow making fun of me -- had a great story about a courageous Congresscritter today (real player audio link). Rep. Marilyn Musgrave (R-CO) is fighting her own party's efforts to raise the gas tax to pay for highway construction. She's doing this at the same time she's asking for money for transportation projects in her own district. Musgrave says that taxes don't need to be raised. We just need to cut waste, like we have every year for the last twenty years.
She's right. You see, there is a nearly unlimited amount of waste in government. According to my calculations, the entire federal government could be adequately funded somewhere around $673.45 if we could only trim all of the fat. Of course, nobody in government will ever admit it. They like their fancy five figure salaries way too much.
