"If slavery be a sin, it is not yours. It does not rest on your action for its origin, on your consent for its existence. It is a common law right to property in the service of man; its origin was Divine decree."
~Davis
"African slavery, as it exists in the United States, is a moral, a social, and a political blessing."
~Davis
"My own convictions as to negro slavery are strong. It has its evils and abuses...We recognize the negro as God and God's Book and God's Laws, in nature, tell us to recognize him - our inferior, fitted expressly for servitude...You cannot transform the negro into anything one-tenth as useful or as good as what slavery enables them to be."
~Davis
"[Slavery] was established by decree of Almighty God...it is sanctioned in the Bible, in both Testaments, from Genesis to Revelation...it has existed in all ages, has been found among the people of the highest civilization, and in nations of the highest proficiency in the arts."
~Davis
"It [slavery] was established by decree of Almighty God...it is sanctioned in the Bible, in both Testaments, from Genesis to Revelation...it has existed in all ages, has been found among the people of the highest civilization, and in nations of the highest proficiency in the arts...Let the gentleman go to Revelation to learn the decree of God - let him go to the Bible...I said that slavery was sanctioned in the Bible, authorized, regulated, and recognized from Genesis to Revelation...Slavery existed then in the earliest ages, and among the chosen people of God; and in Revelation we are told that it shall exist till the end of time shall come. You find it in the Old and New Testaments - in the prophecies, psalms, and the epistles of Paul; you find it recognized, sanctioned everywhere.".
~Davis

Now that the Uniterd States is a totally equal, post-racial society, when slavery returns, it will apply to all people. No matter what your skin colour, if you fail to pay off your mortgage, credit card or other debt to a bank, you become the property of J.P. Morgue, or Citi, or whoever, until your debt is cleared or you are too old to work, at which point you will be released on your own recognizance and please don't make any unpleasant noises as you die in the bushes. Another slave will be along to dispose of your remains as soon as the buzzards alert us as to where they are.
ReplyDeleteBarack Hussein Osama might be the food stamp president, but futureMaximumLeader Jaib! Bush! will be the slavery president. Make that "The Equal Opportunity Slavery President."
Is this from the Tea Party archives?
ReplyDeleteThank you for doing the work (reading shit) that I could never do.
ReplyDeleteHoly crap, those are scary quotes.
attention all rapturing christians:
ReplyDeleteyou will not be taking your precious kitty with you this saturday, so for the paltry sum of only $20.00 (per kitty) i will care for your beloved pet as you sit with jesus.
(offer only good in the event of rapture...and no refunds since it is only mammon anyway)
Pretty much what bukko canukko said: the same kind of language may end up being used by the plutonomy as a justification for keeping the rest of us in economic serfdom: God wills it.
ReplyDeleteOf course, that wouldn't be the first time in America. They had a similar justification for greed in the Gilded Age: "Social Darwinism."
They had a similar justification for greed in the Gilded Age: "Social Darwinism."
ReplyDeleteSssh! Don't mention the Darwin! And "Social" sounds mighty close to "socialist." We must think of it as "Capital Jeebusism." Or "Jeebus H. Capitalist!"
Owning slaves is really confusing. Your Labor represents your Capitol and your Capitol increases by going into labor! Plus, it's just so inefficient. You have to feed, cloth and doctor those people whether they are working or not.
ReplyDeleteOur socially advanced, morally superior, modern ways have evolved far beyond that. We have the high interest credit card debt that survives bankruptcy. We have the life-long student loan debt that survives bankruptcy. And, debtors have no control over the company they do business with. Bankers can buy and sell mortgages at will, treating the home-owners like the chattel they are.
The next economic stage is require all children to attend school until age 16, and pay for their education with a 30% interest school loan that cannot be escaped from via bankruptcy. Heirs of wealthy 2%'s will pay them off easily but punitive late fees will keep the other 98% of the population in debt for life. Corporations will buy and sell the debt of mortals that interest them, but will only pay for work done instead of supporting them. If a worker drops dead - their mandatory school loan will be paid off by the mandatory life insurance included in the loan, (so corporations will assume no risk.)
I say! Brother Bodiciah! Your suggestion is pure genius, and provides a doubling of the profit motive behind the move to eliminate socialistic government schools.
ReplyDeleteIt's not enough that charter schools are supported by government money diverted from what the government used to pay for its monopoly schools. That's tainted by the fact that it's government money, and as kkkonservatives progressively destroy all taxes, that funding might go away.
But we can make the little bastards -- excuse me, "the bright shining lights of our future" -- PAY for K-12 at private schools, using bank loans! You want a good career that will enable you to pay off your debt to scholastic society? Go deep in debt to study one of the in-demand trades. Your parents don't love you enough to borrow on your behalf? There will be plenty of jobs for the likes of you toting boxes of machine gun ammo in The Empire's Glorious Wars of oilLiberation, or doing cleanup in the red zones of futureFukushimas, or if you're a not-man, wearing French maid outfits as you clean bankmasters' $3,000-a-night hotel rooms, heh-heh.
