Irresponsible speculation was made that the hero and champion of all that is right and good could be Deryk Schlessinger. After all, he has practice kicking for the Right Side already. Another possible student-athlete was named in the comments section of TalkLeft... and he too is on a college soccer team. A pity neither of them are on that same page. Or this one.
While Deryk's involvement remains unproven, his family returns to the news. It seems his mom's kid's mother, Dr. Laura Schlessinger, has decided to close her modestly named Dr. Laura Schlessinger Foundation. In a statement on her website, she gave this reason:
We have thought long and hard about whether or not we want to continue to commit the bulk of our charitable contributions to this one cause dear as it is to us. When we first started the foundation we had a three-fold mission: abused children, adoption and abstinence. The instant success of our first initiative for abused children caused us to put the other two goals on the shelf.Fine Republican values are displayed throughout. Just as Our Leader promised an end to peace and prosperity, so does Laura echo that bold determination in her intent to shutter a growing and successful charity.
It is time to take them down. While we still care deeply about the children, we want to be free to devote our energies and our resources to other pressing needs in the future. Thus our decision, to close the Foundation at a high point. We will continue to pack and ship bags through the end of the year and ask that no more donations be made past October 15th. Rest assured that every item in our inventory will go into the hands of abused children.
Irresponsible speculation on a French Internet group suggests that Laura is being harassed by the IRS (her Form 990s show some seriously increasing overhead expenses) or that this somehow ties back in with her son. It was only 15 months ago that the foundation moved to a new and larger location. And now it moves to an honorable end.
